356 Cup Round 4: Monterey
Shane pulled a page from the tortoise and the hare playbook for Round 4 of the 356 Cup, using strategy over speed to level the series at 2–2. On the warm-up lap, he played mind games— thrashing his red 356 C through the corkscrew and flexing an aggressive stance, all to throw Tiara off her rhythm.
And it worked.
As the lights went out, Tiara braced for a sprint. But Shane had other plans—he slipped into a calm, composed pace from the very first corner. Tiara, trying to respond with equal aggression, pushed too hard and crashed before completing her first lap, falling a full lap behind.
To her credit, she regrouped with a vengeance—setting the fastest lap of the race with a blistering 7.379—but her pace was inconsistent as she fought to claw back ground. In contrast, Shane never lost his groove. He completed a flawless 20 laps, never spinning, never sliding, and logging a best time of 8.617—1.3 seconds slower than Tiara's fastest, but far more sustainable.
In the end, Shane’s strategy prevailed. The smooth and steady approach beat out the raw speed that couldn't be tamed.
With four rounds now complete, the series is tied at 2–2. And just like the story goes—sometimes, slow and steady really does win the race.
